CATEGORIES

Topic 1: The connected society

Society today is connected and interconnected, and as a private person, one can get service in real-time and on one’s own terms. Alongside the increase of possibilities and services offered to connect – both with others and with our environment – the expectations continue to expand throughout society. The public sector needs to step it up and get better at delivering service that is real-time, responsive, personalized, as well as sustainable.

Society’s consumption of natural resources is today unsustainable and digital technology will be a necessity for streamlining and optimizing businesses that in the future need to consume significantly fewer resources. IoT, Open Data, and AI are some of the foundations for an inclusive, sustainable, and connected society.

Södertälje aims to develop new applications and solutions that utilize the possibilities of real-time data that are generated in ecosystems between IoT, open data, and different AI applications.

Topic 2: Diversity & Inclusion

Having a diverse workplace where everyone feels included is business critical. It drives innovation and it gives more potential to find better solutions to the problems our customers are facing. We know that technical solutions can be biased, all depending on what group of people have been developing them. To ensure we are developing inclusive and unbiased digital services to be used in societies, we need diverse teams.

There is a shortage of talent in our industry, and an even greater shortage of women. The European Institute for Gender Equality states that only around 17% of the almost eight million ICT specialists in Europe are women. Increasing the share of women is challenging since women are less likely to apply for male-dominated jobs.

Even though we have policies that regulate and outline our corporate diversity and inclusion work, everyone must do their part. Hiring managers must have the tools to make the best recruitment decisions, developers must understand how unbiased solutions are created, customer managers must think of who they give the next promotion to, marketers must think of who they give space to on external events. It’s not only about the hard facts and numbers, it’s mostly what we do every day.

We are developers of digital futures, and we create purposeful technology that reinvents the world for good. To do that, we need a workforce that understands different realities that can shape futures.
